Growing up, I always believed music was something great to listen to. It was something that my parents always played, something i always heard everywhere I went. Listening to music when I younger definitely is not the same as me listening to music now. A younger me could not listen to music and relate, nor really understand; now I can. Listening to artists like Drake and feeling soothed, or J Cole and feeling grateful and smart. (Depending on which album or song.) When listening to certain artists i tend to feel like I can relate to them , to a point it makes me feel as if I knew how they felt making that specific song.
Music has a huge impact on society. It can motivate and inspire many people to partake in movements, styles, and beliefs...which is not always for the better. I remember during the Michael Brown trail (unarmed black teen shot by a police) a group of rappers had gotten together and made a song of awareness, and started a movement "Black lives matter", and me, a black girl myself, wanted to partake, express my concern. From posting picture on social media to having actual conversations about it with friends, family, and teachers; I wanted people to be aware. That one song inspired me to spread my knowledge, and let me know my opinions matters, all lives matter, including black lives.
Although music can make a positive difference, it can also have a negative impact. Some music can influence people to try drugs or act in violence, though. I've never seen it first hand, but I have heard many stories/conspiracies about it. For example there is many conspiracies that gangster rap can make people act out in violent, thing concerns were circulated around the news and other well known media outlets. Although it concern many, it has not been took that far.
For different moods I am in , I listen to different music. When I am unhappy, I go for more of a hip-hop or pop vibe. When I am aggravated I go for R&B or sometime rap. When listening to each genre, i get different vibes, but all in all they make me happy, even if its a sad song. This is the main reason I believe that music is a great thing to listen to/vibe to.
